My aim for my science project is to find a relationship between cloud types and weather condition in one area-if there is one. My question is- How does the cloud type in one area relate to the weather condition in one specific area? For two to three months I have been recording the cloud type and weather condition in my area. I based the cloud type on what I was able to see with my binoculars. Therefore the cloud types were not 100% accurate. I put both of the information on a chart and tried to determine the relationship between if there was one. I also did research to see if there was some sort of relationship that already exists between clouds and the weather.
After the research and the data gathering, I came to a conclusion. My conclusion was that there is a relationship between cloud types and the weather condition in one area. Approximately 70% of my recordings on the cloud type and weather condition match up. clouds are formed when humidity reaches100%, therefore more clouds would mean that precipitation is very likely. Precipitation is division of weather condition. It seems to me that each different cloud type has a specific weather condition. Such as when it is sunny and warm-basically a nice day-the cloud type is usually a Cirrus cloud.
Introduction
My project basically compared and contrasted the cloud types in different areas in relation to the weather conditions in those areas. I did library research and used the internet to help me with my project. In the report I included the different cloud types around the area or search on the internet for the cloud types on certain days and compare the cloud types to the weather conditions in the same area. I l based research on individual investigations and I also gathered my own data. In my individual investigations I took note of the weather conditions such as rainfall or temperature in different areas weekly. I also took note of the cloud type and used my best judgement to decide what type it is. After words l compared and contrasted them both and saw if there was pattern/relationship. I found out that cloud types did relate to the weather condition.
The basic and main material/supply I needed was my binoculars to see the clouds. Other than that my information was supplied by my opinion of the weather condition, the media, and the Internet. From the beginning of January to the end of February, every afternoon around 3:00 P.M. I would record the cloud type and weather condition. If I forgot to record the weather condition I would record the weather information offered by the evening news and the Internet. My main procedure after the data collecting was just the compare my information. I found out that some of the cloud types would occur with a certain weather condition. Such as with the cirrus cloud, which would usually be visible when it is sunny and temperatures are warm. The following is the data I have collected.
From my Recordings
From my recordings/data it is seen that about 70% of my weather condition recordings share the same cloud type. For example is that one type of weather condition may have the same cloud type. Such as on sunny, chilly days the cloud type is usually a Cumulus cloud. Also the cloud type has a big influence on precipitation-such as the Cumulonimbus clouds. It is formed in the upper troposphere or lower stratosphere. Heavy rain, hail, lightning, and thunder come from these clouds. I have discovered that the deeper and darker the cloud there is, the bigger chance of rain there is.
From my data it is seen that 2 out of 3 times when the cirrus census cloud appears the weather conditions are both warm and sunny or hot and humid. Basically the temperatures were high. Whenever the Stratocumulus cloud appeared the weather condition was sunny. When the Cumulonimbus clouds appeared there were snow and a lot of precipitation. When the Cumulus cloud appeared the weather condition was chilly and cool.
I also researched on the cloud type's appearance seeing if the weather condition has an effect on how the cloud type would look. Or if the appearance of the cloud type has an affect on the weather condition.
From my research through books and the Internet I have noticed a relationship in cloud type to weather condition as written in research books. The force, with which the air rises, the topography of the surface, and the temperature at the surface are among the factors that influence whether a cloud will be small or large, thick or thin, flat or bumpy and whether or not it will produce precipitation . That book is stating that weather condition has an effect on the cloud type.
